Aunt Jenny Visits

My sister came to visit us this last week!  With the help of her husband (thanks Philip!), grandparents and neighbors she was able to leave all her kids at home and stay with us for almost a week!

While she was here we went to Vermont.
This is a statue of John Stark, hence, the Iron Man pose.  Get it?  Iron Man . . . Tony Stark . . . cheap thrills, I know.
I think my kids actually licked this statue.
We took Jenny to experience the healing waters of Saratoga.
Here she is, ready to sample the natural spring water.
I may have "forgotten" to mention it's naturally carbonated sulfur water.  Yuck!
But she was brave and kept trying more.
At last, success, yummy spring water!
We went to the National Museum of Horse Racing.
(Free for military, woohoo!)
Little piece of history for you, did you know Andrew Jackson loved horse racing and actually operated a racing stable during his presidency?  He often entered runners in races undo the pseudo name of AJ Donelson.  And before he was president he killed a man (in a duel) over a racing bet (and for insulting his wife).
And of course, the obligatory visit to Cohoes Falls : )

And then we were off to Palmyra for some church history.
Jenny's father-in-law lived in the frame house as a child and his family worked the Smith farm for the church.  The frame house was built by Alvin Smith and is 85% original.  It was very neat to see where the Smith family lived and to imagine someone we know living in the same home, using the same kitchen, sleeping in the same rooms, using the fireplace where Joseph hid the gold plates, etc.  Amazing.
Thanks for coming to visit Aunt Jenny!  We love you and can't wait for you to come back!
