All summer long John and I have been crazy busy with moving and working on our house. So we promised the kids we'd do something fun together as a family before school starts. Well, with only one week of summer left it was crunch time to have some family fun! Despite the 100 plus degree weather we've been having, we chose to go camping! Hoping for good trout fishing, we headed to Beavers Bend State Park in Southeast Oklahoma.

The fishing turned out to be great! It was fantastic for John and the boys to have fishing success!
It's all fun and games until someone gets smacked in the face by a trout : )
John taught the boys how to clean and gut a fish. You should have heard the whining and crying. You would have thought they were being tortured. There were real tears, feet stomping, and everything! One eight year old even screamed, "I want to have important skills in life, but NOT THIS ONE!"
And now to entertain ourselves, we will throw mud and rocks and get incredibly dirty : )
The river was nice and cold, a perfect way to have fun and keep cool. Thankfully we were in a nice open area so we could keep an eye out for snakes! Even though I swore I would never swim in a natural body of water in Oklahoma, I had to get in the river to cool off. We even jumped in the river every night just before bed trying to cool off enough to sleep (skinny dipping may have been involved). Even after that, it was hot enough at night that we slept on top of our sleeping bags with all the tent windows open. Makes us miss camping in the mountains!

We had a great family adventure! Not only did we have fun, John got the awesome fishing he was hoping for, we learned some great lessons and made some great memories! Free from the distractions of our everyday life, it was a much needed time for us to cherish just being parents and spending quality time with our kids.
