Sunday, on the way to church, I told John it was time to get our family a dog. Amazingly, he didn't say no, which is always the answer I've gotten in the past. The only criteria I had for getting a dog was it had to come from a shelter. A minute later, we passed a "free puppy" sign in front of a house. After church, we passed the house again and I asked John if we could just look. He actually turned the car around! A free puppy turned out to be eight; dirt, flea, and tick covered puppies. One of the walking flea bags caught my attention with his beautiful blue eyes and spotted nose. He didn't come from a shelter, but we consider him a rescue dog all the same. After spending several hours of bathing, combing/picking fleas out of his hair, he was good as new.
Meet Chex
Birthday: July 27, 2014
7 weeks old
We don't know what kind of dog he is. His mom is a medium size mutt and dad is possibly a large white dog, but it's not certain.
Did we get the dog for the kids? Yes, the kids wanted a dog, but they also want a snake, and that's NEVER happening! I'm the one who really wanted the dog : ) So as fun as the dog is for the kids, I'm the one who is in heaven!
We let the kids name him. John and I vetoed several of the kid's picks until we all agreed on Checkers. Checkers seemed like a mouth full, so we shortened it to just Chex.
We all adore him, rat tail and all (we think the fleas caused him to chew the hair off his tail). We'll see if it grows back now that the fleas are gone : )
Welcome to the family Chex!
