Berry Pickin' Fun!

Gabe enjoyed sampling the goods!
All our beautiful berries.
Connor and Gabe
All the kiddos at Young's Dairy
Zachary all snuggled up and sound asleep!
Shelby and Sol
Isn't Abigail a doll?
Porter and Zachary
Sol
All the crazy berry pickin' moms!
(Minus Shersti and myself - since we're not crazy.)

Backwards!

Gabe is very independent and likes to do things by himself (I'm sure this doesn't surprise you). One thing he likes to do and we encourage him to do is to get dressed by himself. Sometimes he just doesn't get everything on the right way. We thought it was really funny when EVERYTHING he was wearing was on backwards the other day. Even his shoes were on the wrong feet! Our neighbors have just gotten used to seeing Gabe with his clothes on the wrong way since we don't fix them most of the time. We are just so proud that he gets dressed all on his own!

Creepy Crawly

We had to take a picture of this weird looking spider before we killed it. Has anyone ever seen a spider like this?

Gabe is One Cool Kid!

Ever since Gabe was a baby he would suck on his two middle fingers to soothe himself, especially when he was tired. When we went to the dentist a few weeks ago she told us that he needed to stop his finger sucking habit. This past week I decided it was time to work on it with Gabe. We put band aids on his fingers in hopes that he wouldn't suck on them. It was really hard on him for a couple of days, especially when he was trying to go to sleep, but, it worked! In just six days (that's just under a week for those of you who aren't good at math) we are band aid free and he's no longer sucking on his fingers!!! I was expecting a really long hard fight over this, but he really surprised me! What an awesome kid!

Keeping up with the Jones'

So I've spent my summer keeping up with the Jones' (aka our neighbors the Arens') and I mean literally keeping up with them!
This is how many a conversation went this summer...
Dana: I want to run such and such race, do you want to do it with me?
Me: No, I hate running.
Dana: Great! What time should I pick you up?

Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but for some reason or another I let Dana talk me into a number of races this summer and you know what, I've enjoyed myself! I feel like I've come a LONG way since the first race we ran back in June. (I've come 120 miles to be exact, but whose counting?) Anyway, for that first race I only had to run 2 miles. Can I tell you how bad 2 miles scared me back in June? I even made John run the 2 miles with me because I didn't think I would be able to run that far without someone there to keep me going.

How far have I come? Well, Saturday I ran the Air Force 10k with our neighbors Matt and Shersti. And guess what? I had the crazy thought cross my mind that I wished I was running the half marathon with Dana instead of the 10k. What? Did I really just think that? I told you I've come a long way, not just physically but in my overall feelings about the sport of running. Anyway, the 10k was a lot of fun and I'm proud of myself for doing it! I ran with Matt and Shersti the entire way and I enjoyed their company way more than I would have enjoyed pushing myself to finish with a faster time. (I really don't think I have a competitive bone in my body.) My awesome cheerleaders John, Gabriel, and Porter were all waiting at the finish line. Gabe even joined me to run across the finish line at just under 80 minutes.

Since it was Shersti's birthday she invited me and Dana to go get pedicures that afternoon. Aaaaaah, that felt soooooo good on tired feet! Happy Birthday Shersti!

Guess it's time to start training for that half marathon now. . .

Caution - Construction Zone!

Last night while I was cooking dinner Gabe built a road through our house using a roll of paper towels. Notice he even got a marker out and put lines down the center of the road. I couldn't help but smile and think my dad would be so proud of his grandkid right now!

Check it out

Dana did a great job summarizing our weekend in Chattanooga and she has a super cute post about Gabe on her blog. Go take a look!

in a two year old's mind...

(To get this post you have to understand that Gabe LOVES Thomas the train, and we buy our groceries from the Commissary on base. )

While chatting with Gabe last week I told him we were going to go grocery shopping. So he asked, "Are we going to the Thomassary?"
